At least some of the fans of the smash hit series would be harboring a similar kind of notion. And why shouldn’t they? Actor Matt Smith revealed his plan of continuing with the show after bagging the prestigious National Television Award.
He wasn’t alone to pick an award for his performance in BBC’s sci-fi series as his co-star, Karen Gillan also managed a win in Best Female Drama Performance category.
Announcing his stay in the show, Smith went on to claim that nobody is ‘bigger’ than the show, neither him nor Gillan, who has already made her exit.
Actor’s confirmation came at a time when everybody was expecting him to follow suit. But it seems he’s more committed to Doctor Who than his co-star.
Given that Karen Gillan got a recognition for her work as Amy Pond, technically she was also supposed to go all gung-ho about the show. But alas, she had already made the announcement of not reprising her character and that must have kept her off a Smith’s act, after the recently held award ceremony.
All’s well that ends well. The creators of Doctor Who would more than happy that at least Smith didn’t take the decision of bidding adieu. In fact, he cleared all cloud of speculation by coming out clear about his position.
It’s not that a win at NTAs played on him, but certainly he would eye for same kind of feat next year as well. And with Doctor Who tag attached to him, we might once again get to see an all-confident Matt Smith in 2013.
The stars of the sci-fi series had their share of luck and recognition at NTAs though; Doctor Who lost out to a better drama series, Downton Abbey. Smith would have been in the ninth cloud had the series clinched a prize in the Best Drama category.
Well there is always next, and Matt Smith’s ‘greater than anything’ series would certainly compete for that.
